Korea leads Girl's Team first block

9th July, Bangkok: Choi Yurin, Paek Yedam, Park Sunwoo and Oh Hyunji snatched a slender lead in the opening block of the Girl's Teaam of Four at the 21st Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships ahead of Singapore in second and Philippines third.

Korea got off to a cracking start with 870 in their opening game, just 5 pins ahead of Arianne Tay, Ning Tay, Alyssa Koh and Colleen Pee of Singapore followed by China's Sun Luming, Li Yiru, Xu Zizhou and Li Yiru in third with 746. Chinese Taipei and Malaysia shared fourth spot.

The Singapore quartet step up their pace with a superb 830 in their second game to move ahead of the Koreans by 89 pins after the latter managed a poor 736. Chinese Taipei's Chiang Pin Yin, Chen Yi Ru, Huand Hsin Tsen and Teng Jo Yu pulled away from the Malaysians to take up third.

But the Koreans bounced back brilliantly with 830 in their third game to snatch the lead with 2454 total. Singapore settled for second with 2430, 24 pins adrift. Philippines' Danielle Denise Lazo, Danielle Escolano, Kassandraa Denise Yap and Norel Nuevo stormed home to clinch third spot with 2173.

The Taiwanese slipped down to fourth with 2171, just 2 pins behind. Malaysia had a disappointing block to finish fifth with 2140 after a good display in the Doubles event yesterday. The girls will resume with their second block of 3 games tomorrow afternoon.
