Korean women dominate Round 1 finals

24th June, Macau: Kim So Hee of KNSU led her team-mates, Lee Jae Gyeong and Jeong Hye Gyeong to take the first three positions of the Women's Round 1 Masters finals of the 2023 Macao-China International Open on Saturday evening.

Oh Hyun Ji registered the highest score of 221 in her opening game to lead Jeong by 12 pins. Yun A Reum was the other Korean who shot 207, was placed third. A sizzling 236 in the second game from Kim saw her moving into the lead.

Jeong stayed in a close third. Despite just rolling 182 and 183 in the next two games, Kim held on to the lead, albeit just four pins ahead of Lee, remaining in second. The leader increased her pace slighty with 200 and 195 in games 5 and 6 to stretch her margin from 4 to 21 pins.

Kim went on to end the round with 222 and 205 for an 8-game total of 1620 in the lead. Lee settled for second with 1612 while Jeong slipped down to third with 1537. Defending champion, Yanee Saebe of Thailand had a poor start but bounced back to clinch fourth position with 1518.

Early pace-setter, Oh completed the top 5 sharing fourth position. Newcomer, Yuri Sato of Japan squeezed into Round 2 for finishing 12th position with 1460. The top 12 advanced to Round 2 finals tomorrow, joined by the 6 seeded qualifiers from the general standings for another 8 games. The top 6 at the end of the round will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals to determine this year's champion.
