First-ever gold medal for Brunei

22nd January, Bangkok: Kamarul Ariffin Haji Abd Ghaffar and Saidin Haji Awang Damit won Brunei's first-ever gold and bronze medals at the 13th ASEAN Para Games Thailand 2025 with victory in the Men's Singles TPB2 while Abang Yahya Bin Abang Azhar and Muhammad Razif Iskandar swept the Men's Singles TPB4 gold and silver medals.

Saidin Haji Awang led a field of 12 players after rolling 181 in his opening game to lead Tanapoom Pugtra of Thailand in second and team-mate, Kamarul Ariffin in third. Saidin continued to lead with another 181 in his second game as the Thai and Kamarul continued to trail the leader.

A poor 139 in the third game allow Kamarul Ariffin to take over the running at the halfway mark. Saidin slipped to second and Tanapoom remained in third.

Kamarul Ariffin went on to clinch a historical gold medal with 1011 for Brunei despite ending with a poor 127 in his last game. Tanapoom claimed the silver medal with 994 while Saidin added the bronze medal with 967. Indonesia's Sahrul Andriansyah missed the podium after finishing fourth with 953.

Meanwhile, Abang Yahya Bin Abang Azhar captured Malaysia's second gold medal of the championship with victory in the Men's Singles TPB4 category with a total of 1243. Muhammad Razif Iskandar made it a one-two finish to add a silver medal for Malaysia with 1136.

Phongsakon Suaithong of Thailand finished third with 1106 to pick up the bronze medal. Singaore's Nixon Fan Jun Jie missed the podium after managing fourth with 1052.

TPB8 Women on wheelchair and TPB9 Men with lower limb handicap will contest their Singles tomorrow morning at 10.00am local time while TPB10 Men with upper limb handicap will take to the lanes at 2.00pm for their Singles event.

Competition will shift to the Mixed Doubles event for TPB1+3, TPB2+2, TPB4+4, TPB8+8, TPB9+9 and TPB10+10 on 24th and 25th January.
