Second gold for Seong Nam, Shah Alam, two for Kuala Lumpur

29th October, Shah Alam: Seong Nam captured their second gold medal at the 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship with victory in the Men Doubles while Shah Alam A won the Senior Men and Kuala Lumpur picked up the Women and Senior Women Doubles gold.

Won Jong Hyeok and Singles gold medalist, Oh Gi Tae defeated third-seed, Adri Wafiq Hussin and Muhammad Fazrin Khairul Faizi of Shah Alam A1, 191-171 in the final to win their second gold medal in the title match. The champion had earlier ousted Mohammad Azizi Naim Jabar nd Noor Afizal Azizan of Shah Alam A2, 228-217 in the first semi-final match to reach the final.

Shah Alam A1 out-paced second-seed, Muhd Nur Aiman and Syafiq Ridhwan, 233-182 in the other semi-final match to face Seong Nam in the title match. The victory gave Seong Nam their second gold medal of the championship thus far. Shah ALam A1 took home the silver while Shah Alam A2 and Petaling Jaya settled for a bronze medal each.

The champion topped the Doubles preliminaries yesterday with 1837 ahead of Petaling Jaya in second with 1804. Both Shah Alam pairs finished third and fourth with 1757 and 1743 respectively to advance to the medal rounds.

Meanwhile, fourth-seed Nur Irdina Batrisya Bt Mat Aris and Afiqah Kamilia Bt Ali trashed second-seed, Nura Zulkifli and Jerlyn Lam of Singapore, 201-143 in the Women's final match to win their second gold medal. The champion narrowly defeated team-mates, Helena Bt Jamal and Nur Nais Falilnesa Bt Isman, 164-156 in the all-Kuala Lumpur semi-final.

Singapore advanced to the final with victory over third-seed, Zatil Iman Andul Ghani and Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik of Shah Alam A, 212-171 in the other semi. Singapore settled for the silver medal while Kuala Lumpur 2 and Shah Alam 2 were awarded a bronze medal each.

Kuala Lumpur 2 advanced to the medal rounds after topping yesterday's preliminaries with 1631. Singapore, Shah Alam A2 and the champion made the cut in second, third and fourth positions with 1552, 1545 and 1543 respectively.

The Senior Men Doubles gold medal was won by third-seed, Isman Md Razali and Singles gold medalist, Adnan Osman of Shah Alam A1 after their 169-122 victory over their team-mates, Lee Wooi Jin and Mohd Ahkuan Sagimin in the final.


Women Doubles top 4, Kuala Lumpur 1, Singapore 1, Petaling Jaya 2 and Kuala Lumpur 1

The champion edged Petaling Jaya's Y.H. Ng and Darren Lau, 183-174 in the semi-final. Shah Alam B2 out-classed top-seed, Wagiman Kassim and Robert Lu, 223-163 in the first semi-final match to reach the final. Their win added a third gold medal of the championship thus far.

Kuala Lumpur won their second gold medal of the day after Mastura Binti Mahmud and Nur Hashilah Binti Hashim after the pair defeated top-seed Kim Ji-Myoung and Yang Young-Ja, 180-155 in the Senior Women Doubles final. Kuala Lumpur ousted Kowloon's Maggie Yeung and May Hui, 183-159 to advance to the final.

Jeju defeated Petaling Jaya's Poziah Atan and Shirley Burnett, 151-129 in the first semi-final match. Jeju settled for the silver medal while Petaling Jaya and Kowloon took home a bronze medal each. Jeju topped yesterday's preliminaries with 1450.

Kuala Lumpur, Kowloon and Petaling Jaya made the medal rounds in second, third and fourth positions 1442, 1436 and 1378 respectively. Competition will shift to the 3-games Team of 4 preliminaries later today. The top finishers in each division will advance to the medal rounds schedule for October 30.
