Asian Intercity Championship returns to Guam

19th September, Tamuning: The Asian Intercity Bowling Championship returned to Guam for the sixth time since hosting the inaugural event in 1987 and its previous in 2013 as team officials met at the Team Managers' Meeting in Guam Plaza Resort Hotel.

Fourteen cities converged in Tamnuning, Guam to take part in this year's championship at Central Lanes from September 18 to 26, 2026 Cities are Hong Kong and New Territories, China, Paranaque and Pasay from Philippines, Singapore, Subang Jaya from Malaysia, Taichung and Taipei from Chinese Taipei.

Host cities are represented by Agana Heights, Dededo, Hagatna, Tamuning, Tumon and Yigo. Only Dededo, Paranaque and Pasay has full teams of four Men, four Women, four Senior Men and four Senior Women while some cities only field Men and Senior Men, Men and Women teams and some just Men teams.

A total of 48 Men, 24 Women, 28 Men Senior and 20 Women Senior athletes and 15 officials totaling 135 participants. As usual, the meeting kicked off with a welcome address by Mr Johnson Cheng, President of Asian Intercity Bowling Council (AIBC) during which he thanked all the cities for their continuous support in sending their teams.

He also thanked the organizers, Tamuning City for hosting the 38th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship and to return to the city that hosted the inaugural championship way back in 1987 and for hosting it for the sixth time.

Mr Joey Miranda III, Executive Director of AIBC and President of IBF Oceana Zone, who is the Tournament Chairman, chaired the meeting by conducting a roll-call of the participating cities. He went through the championship schedule, highlighting the official practice sessions, the opening and the closing ceremonies.

The official practice will be held tomorrow, September 19, divided into two squads. The Official Opening Ceremony will held at 4.00pm local time at the bowling center. Mr Johnson Cheng (Chairman), Paranaque, Mr Mervyn Foo, Singapore and Ms Michelle Wong, Subang Jaya were the appointed Jury of Appeal.

Competition will kick off with the Men and Men Senior Singles event on September 20, Women and Senior Women Singles September 21. Doubles will be contested on September 22 and 23. The Team event will be held on September 24 and 25.

The Top 16 Men, Top 16 Men Senior, Top 16 Women and Top 8 Women Senior based on their All Events standings after the three events will make the cut for their respective best-of-3 Elimination Round Masters Finals on September 26, ending the championship.

There will be a Victory Banquet held at Capitol Kitchen Restaurant where the division champions and overall champions awards will be presented. A flag handing-over ceremony will also take place from this year's host to the next host city, Taipei.
