18th April, Petaling Jaya: 2025 IBF World Cup Team champion, Timmy Tan and Adelia Nur Binti Irwan Syazalee of Malaysian National Squad took over the lead of the Men's and Women's Open Masters qualifying table of the 43rd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships on Friday.

Tan, who had just returned from his stint in the PBA Tour in the United States one day ago, immediately went on to the lanes for his qualifying attempts. Tan chalked up two scintillating series of 746 and 743 to leapfrog into the lead of the local pool with 1489.

Overnight leader and team-mate, Tsen Fan Yew, who had occupied top spot for the past three days, slipped down to second with his 1485 total. Chong Jun Foo of Hero Bowling, Sarawak also dropped down to third with 1475. Newcomer, Chong Yew Jin of Xproshop clinched fourth position with 1465.

Last year's first runner-up, Syafiq Ridhwan was relegated to fifth position, missing out on the bye with 1457 so was reigning National Champion, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin dropping down to fifth with 1452.

There were no changes in the overseas pool as Noel Hagland Torgersen of Norway remained in the lead with 1447 followed by Jordan Dinham of Australia in second with 1446. SBF Singapore's Ian Tay and Nu'man Syahmi Bin Ysuri held on to third and fourth with 1423 and 1418 respectively.

The top 4 local and top 4 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals on April 19. Qualifiers positioned 5 to 12 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 16 in the Mixed Pool and 3 qualifiers from the Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

Meanwhile in the Women's Open division, National Youth Adelia Nur Binti Irwan Syazalee became the first bowler to surpass the 800-mark with her 825 series to add to her 664 series and moved into the lead with 1489. Early leader and 2025 IBF World Cup Singles champion, Natasha Roslan settled for second with 1402.

Faten Najihah Binti Ahmad Faik held on to third spot with 1397 as 2023 Malaysian Open champion, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS/Sarawak dropped out of the top bracket into fourth position with 1389. SBF Singapore women took the top three in the overseas pool.

Colleen Pee totaled 1379 to take over the lead from overnight leader, Nur Irdina with 1355. Bernice Lim clinched third spot with an improved 1342. Lara Posadas-Wong of Philippines and a fourth Singaporean, New Hui Fen rounded out the top five with 1334 and 1320 respectively.

The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals. Qualifiers positioned 4 to 10 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 10 in the Mixed Pool and top 2 from Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

Qualifying rounds will end late this evening with the last squad at 22:30hrs. A one-game Desperado Squad will be held for the top 3 Men's Open, top 2 Women's Open and top 3 Men's Graded to make the Masters Finals.
