Top Asian bowlers to compete in 47th Hong Kong Open

21st June, Hong Kong, China: The 47th Hong Kong International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships is on again in South China Athletic Association Bowling Centre at Causeway Bay from June 28 – July 6, 2024 as announced officially at a press conference this afternoon.

The Hon. Timothy T.T. Fok, GBM, GBS, JP, President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and Miss Winnie Chui, Deputy Director of Leisure & Cultural Services (Leisure Services) have kindly consented to officiate at the Opening Ceremony on Sunday, June 30, 2024 which will be held at the same venue at 7.00 pm.

Dr. Karl C. Kwok, BBS, MH, Vice President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Hon Vincent Cheng Wing-shun, MH, JP, Vice-chairman of Hong Kong Sports Institute, Mr. Wong Tak Sum, Sam, MH, Commissioner for Sports of Culture, Sport and Tourism Bureau and Ms. Vivien Lau, SBS, JP Chairman of Hong Kong, China Tenpin Bowling Congress were present at the press conference.

A total of 10 countries and regions including China, United Arabs Emirates, Indonesia, South Korea, Macao China, Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and United Kingdom are sending their top-class bowlers to Hong Kong.

The Defending Men Master Champion is Tun Hakim from Malaysia and the Defending Women Master Champion is Joey Yip from Hong Kong China.

In preparation for the upcoming Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in September and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in November, we can expect the Hong Kong China Team to give their all in this Championships. As always, our local favorites, Gold Medalists of Men's Trios Event in the 2023 IBF World Bowling Championships in Kuwait Wu Siu Hong, Tony Wong and Ivan Tse will be eyeing the Men's Open Masters title.

Michael Mak, Silver Medalist of the Open Men Masters of the Championships last year will also be targeting at grabbing the title this year as well. We can expect keen competition among the Asian Athletes as they will consider Hong Kong Open an arena to prepare for the upcoming Asian Championships and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held in Bangkok in September and November respectively.

There will definitely be outstanding performances during the whole week when there are so many top caliber bowlers matching their skill against one another. This year’s Hong Kong Open will surely be a showcase of spectacular bowling for the Hong Kong community.
