Korean, Hong Kong ends qualifying as top three

8th May, Taoyuan: Fifth perfect gamer and Squad B leader, Jeon Hae Min of Korea, two Hong Kong nationals, Jason Leung and Jovi Ma earned automatic qualification to Round 2 Finals of the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic 2026 after occupying the top three positions of the overall standings at the end of the third block.

Hong Kong nationals had swept the top three positions after their third block. Leung had regained pole position in Squad A after amassing a 15-game three blocks qualifying rounds with 3571 followed by Jovi Ma in second with 3560 and overnight leader, Dylan Lam in third with 3559.

Jeon rolled the tournament's fifth perfect game en-route to topping Squad B with 3602, pipping Leung to the coerall top spot and relegating Lam out of the top three bracket. The top three will skip Open division Round 1 finals and automatically advance to Round 2.

In the local pool, Yen Shuo Lin of Chinese Taipei, who led Squad D at the end of the three blocks, topped the local standings with 3490, followed by Chen Te Shuan in second with 3464 and Tsai Yu Shuo in third with 3433. The top three local will also skip Round 1 finals.

Lam headed the mixed pool in seventh position ahead of Ethan Damien Goh of Malaysia, second perfect gamer, Hiroki Tachibana and Yoshinao Shimoji of Japan rounding up the top 10. 2025 Asian Junior five gold medalist, Qurratu'Ain Izdihar of Malaysia was the top women qualifier in 25th position with 3277.

Ex-Hong Kong international, Michael Mak survived the cut in 50th position with 3125. Fourth perfect gamer, Tsai I Wei of Chinese Taipei missed the cut for the finals by just two pins.

Two Hong Kong nationals, Ocean Yeung and Oscar Lam finished one-two in the one-game Desperado squad with 275 and 266. Puntep Bhayakporn of Thailand finished third with 242. Qualifiers positioned 7 to 50, top three from the Desperado squad and defending champion, Xu Zhe Jia of Chinese Taipei will contest Round 1 finals over eight games.

The top 26 with the highest pinfalls af the end of the 8-game finals will advance to Round 3 finals, joined by the top 3 overseas and top 3 local seeded qualifiers. The top 6 at the end of the 8-game finals will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals.
