Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur advances as top seeds

29th October, Shah Alam: Petaling Jaya advanced to the Men Team of 4 medal rounds of the 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship as top seed joined by New Territories, Shah Alam B and Singapore while Kuala Lumpur took top spot ahead of Shah Alam B, Shah Alam A and Paranaque in the Women's division.

Doubles gold medalist, Won Jong Hyeok and Oh Gi Tae teamed up with Oh Jong Seok and Hwang Sung Min of Seong Nam got off to a cracking start with 914 in their Team of 4 opening game to lead Otto Leung, Alger Pak, Henry Hui and Singles bonze medalist, Stanley Lau of New Territories with 867 in second.

Shah Alam B downed 839 for third and Singapore shot 834 for fourth. Muhd Nur Aiman, Zaid Izlan, Syed Mohammad Hafiz and Syafiq Ridhwan of Peraling Jaya responded with an identical 914 in the second game to hauld themselves up to second to trail Seong Nam remaining in the lead despite managing only 778.

Petaling Jaya ended the 3-game preliminaries with 847 to seal top spot with 2526 and advanced to the medal rounds as top seed.

New Territories also finished well with 836 to clinch second position with 2479. Shah Alam B and Singapore ended with identical 800 to take up third and fourth medal round spots with 2474 and 2461 respectively.

Early pace-setter and overwhelming favorite, Jeong Nam missed the cut by 40 pins to finish fifth with 2421. Petaling Jaya will face Singapore in the first Baker's format semi-final while New Territories and Shah Alam B will square off in the other semi.

Meanwhile Women Doubles gold medalist of Helena Bt Jamal and Nur Nais Falilnesa Bt Isman teamed up with Doubles bronze medalist, Nur Irdina Batrisya Bt Mat Aris and Afiqah Bt Ali to win the Women Team of 4 preliminaries with 2432 total.

Najwa Nazirah Mohd Amir, Suhada Mohd Sayuthi, Nurul Ayunni Junaid and Nurul Alyssa Junaidi of Shah Alam B finished second with 2403. Their team-mates, Nurfadhlin Arisya Muhd Ariff, Adlin Nadhirah Ghazali, Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani and Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik took third spot with 2354.

Alyssa Louise G. Ty, Norel G. Nuevo, Anne Marie Dianne and Maria Lourdes Arles of Paranaque made the cut for the medal rounds in fourth position with 2335. Singapore missed the cut by just two pins in fifth position. Kuala Lumpur will meet Paranaque in the first semi-final match while the other semi-final match will be an all-Shah Alam affair.

Pasay sprung a surprise win in the earlier Senior Men Team of 4 preliminaries after topping the field with 2208. Kuala Lumpur finished second with 2179 to join Pasay in the medal round.


Women Team top seed, Kuala Lumpur 1, Singapore 1, Petaling Jaya 2 and Kuala Lumpur 1

Shah Alam A and Petaling Jaya made the cut in third and fourth positions with 2158 and 2137 respectively. Pasay will meet Petaling Jaya in the first semi-final match and Kuala Lumpur will face Shah Alam A in the other semi.
