Thai, Indonesian wins first round

14th July, Hong Kong: Two-time Thailand Open champion, Kim Bolleby of Thailand and two-time ABF Tour TOC winner, Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia won the Men's and Women's Open Stage 1 finals of the 43rd Hong Kong International Open.

Hengki Suasanto of Indonesia set a blistering pace with 279 in his opening game to lead Bolleby by 10 pins followed by Aseel Alroomi of Kuwait and Atchariya Cheng sharing third spot. Bolleby took over the lead after adding a 269 opening game with 229 to leapfrog the Indonesian.

The Thai continued his hot pace with 258 in the third game to extend his lead from 11 to 34 pins as Hengki remained in second.

Badin Lerdpiriyasakulkit of Thailand followed in third, 54 pins adrift. Hengki responded with 235 in the fifth game to take over the lead but lost it back to Bolleby after the sixth game.

The leader went on to win the round with 224 and 215 for an eight-game total of 1837. Desperado squad qualifier, Ammar Tarrad of Saudi Arabia stormed home to take up third position with 1750 while Badin and defending champion, Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia completed the top five.

The cut at 18th position was keenly contested in the last two games. Three-time Hong Kong Open winner, Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong survived the cut to share 17th position with Dhruv Sarda of India with 1588. Sithiphol Kunaksorn of Thailand missed the cut by one pin.

Meanwhile Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia, who had hung on to win the round with 1671. Several finalists traded the lead for the first three games before the Limansantoso picked up her pace to move into the lead midway through the round.

Joy Yap of Singapore claimed second position with 1657. Yanee Saebe of Thailand finished third, a further 46 pins away. Alisha Nabila of Indonesia and 2016 Chinese Taipei champion, Huang Chiung Yao rounded out the top five.

The top 18 men and top 15 women will be joined by the top three local and top three overseas qualifiers for another eight games in Stage 2 to determine the top six men and women advancing to the stepladder shootout finals.

The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women at the end of the final results will also qualify for the third 2017 ABF Tour Hong Kong leg which will be staged at the same bowling centre on July 16. The official broadcaster, i-Cable will telecast the tour commencing with the semi-final matches at 4.00pm local time.
