Malaysian bags Graded Masters title

8th March, Taoyuan: Second-seed, Syaffique Ikhwan of Sharxfin Bowling, Malaysia defeated three Taiwanese including top-seed, Chen Kuan Lun in the final to bag the Graded Masters title of the 2nd Formosa International Classic 2025 late Saturday.

The 29-year-old Syaffique outclassed top-seed, 222-159 in an all-lefty title match to win the title. The champion had earlier ousted two Taiwanese, third-seed James Chang and Huang Ye Wen, 199-169-189 to earn a crack at the coveted title against Chen.

Syaffique also picked up NT$150,000 (approx. US$4,500) as champion. Chen settled for NT$80,000 as first runner-up while Huang and Chang earned NT$50,000 and NT$40,000 respectively as second and third runners-up. The top three winners also received a trophy each.

In the earlier 8-game roll-off, Chen topped the field with 1728 total pinfalls, 21 pins ahead of Syaffiqu in second with 1707. Chang finished third with 1694. There was a tie for fourth position between Huang and Rick Tan of Singapore on 1669 each.

Huang and Tan tied in their one-ball roll-off with eight pins a piece but it was the Taiwanese who struck in his second ball to Tan's nine to earn fourth spot for the Stepladder Finals. Tan settled for fifth while Muhamad Bakri Bin Husain of Malaysia rounded out the top six with 1657.

Taiwanese dominated the Spinner division as top-seed, Lee Yu Feng defeated challenger, Ma Ying Hau, 236-203 in the title match to capture the Spinner Masters crown. Ma, who settled for second had earlier dispatched third-seed Chou Chia Chen and fourth-seed, Yeh Chian Yu, 213-193-190 in the semi-finals to face Lee in the final.

Lee pocketed NT$150,000 (approx. US$4,500) as champion. Ma, Chou and Yeh took home NT$80,000, NT$50,000 and NT$40,000 respectively as first, second and third runners-up.

Lee topped the earlier 8-games Masters roll-off with 1766, just one pin ahead of Ma in second. Chou and Yeh made the cut for the Stepladder Finals in third and fourth positions with 1761 and 1737 respectively.

The Open division Round 1 Finals will be contested tomorrow at 10:20 am local time. The top 26 finishers at the end of the six games will advance to Round 2 Finals, joined by the top three local and top three overseas qualifiers for another 6 games.

The top six at the end of Round 2 will proceed to the elimination knockout Stepladder Finals to determine this year's winners. The champion will walk away with the top prize of NT$350,000 (approx. US$10,600).
