Taiwanese snatches U22 Youth title

9th May, Taoyuan: Tsai Yu Shuo of Chinese Taipei outclassed Jovi Ma of Hong Kong, China after defeating the top-seed, 279-214 in final stepladder match to snatch the U22 Youth Masters title of the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic 2026 on Saturday at DongDong Bowling Alley.

Both started the title match with three strikes-in-a-row but Tsai added a fourth to take a 16 pin lead when Ma rolled 8 pin and spare. A costly mistake by Ma when he failed to make his spare after leaving five pins in the fifth frame.

The Hong Kong national bounced back with three strikes from frame six but Tsai went one up by downing another strike in the nine frame to extend his lead to 47 pins. Ma could not respond as the Taiwanese two-hander struck home for a 279 to seal victory while Ma settled for 214 for second position.

In the earlier semi-final match second-seed, Tsai easily defeated third-seed, Yoshinao Shimoji of Japan and fourth-seed Syawal Sayed of Malaysia, 259-211-185 to advance to the final match.

Tsai walked away with NT$30,000 (approx. US$950) and a trophy as champion. Ma took home NT$20,000 as first runner-up. Shimoji and Sayed earned NT$10,000 and NT$8,000 respectively. Mr Chan Shu Tung, DongDong Bowling Alley Proprietor was on hand to present the prizes to the winners.

Open Division Round 1 finals will be held this afternoon commencing 3:30pm while the Graded Division Masters finals will be contested at 7:30pm local time.
