Singapore sweeps Women's and Men's Open titles

27th June, Macau: Top-seed, Colleen Pee and second-seed, Nu'Man Syahmi swept the Open Masters titles of the 2026 Macao China International Open Bowling Championships with victory in the Women's and Men's Stepladder finals on Saturday evening.

Pee had to work hard to earn her first-ever international crown after the Singapore national team member lost the first match, 214-227 to challenger and winner of the second semi-final match, Park Si Eu of KNSU/Korea with three splits. Although she had another split in the second deciding match, Pee had rolled eight strikes to beat Park convincingly, 267-211 for the victory.

Third-seed Park had earlier defeated second-seed and team-mate, Kim Yeon Jin and a second Singaporean, Charmaine Chang, 234-217-197 to challenge Pee in the final. Fourth-seed Chang ousted Macau hopeful, Wong Son Ian and sixth-seed, Kim Seung Jun, 245-242-209 in the first Women's stepladder match.

Pee pocketed the top prize of MOP40,00 (approx. US$5,000) as champion. Park and Kim Yeon Jin took home MOP18,000 and MOP10,000 as first and second runners-up. In the earlier Round 2 finals, Pee topped the 8-game roll-off with 1875, 14 pins ahead of Kim in second.

Park finished third with 1822 followed by Chang, Wong and Kim Seung Jun in fourth to sixth positions to make the cut for the Stepladder finals. Shannen Ong of Singapore missed the cut by 10 pins.

In the Men's Open division, third-seed Nu'Man Syahmi gave Singapore the double after he beat top-seed, Michael Mak of Hong Kong twice in the Men's Stepladder final match. The Singaporean easily beat Mak, 277-237 in the first match to force a sudden-death breaker.

Mak had two costly single-pin misses and despite recovering with five strikes-in-a-row, Mak lost the decider, 225-246 to settle for second position. Nu'Man had earlier edged winner of the first stepladder match, Keith Mark on his seventh one-ball roll-off with a strike to break the tie of 268 score as Mark downed 9 pins.

Defending champion and second-seed, Jang Tae Joon managed only 256 to end up in fourth position. Mark thrashed fifth-seed, Lei Hok Hin of Macau and Lau Pak Man of Hong Kong, 266-200-234 in the first stepladder match.

Michael Mak topped the earlier 8-game roll-off with 2127, 56 pins ahead of Jang in second with 2071. Nu'Man finished third followed by Mark, Lei and Lau in fourth to sixth positions. Wesley Low missed the cut by 21 pins when the American finished seventh.

Nu'Man picked up the top prize of MOP70,000 (approx. US$8,900) as champion, Mak ended up with MOP30,000 and Mark MOP15,000 as first and second runners-up.
