Malaysian duo leads Doubles opening squad

12th July, Incheon: After a disappointing show in the Singles event, Anis Hannani Romzi and Adania Mohd Redzwan bounced back well to lead the opening squad of the Girl's Doubles qualifying round of the 2024 IBF World Youth Championships.

The Malaysian duo got off to a good start with 244 in their opener as Nur Irdina Binti Hazly and Ning Tay of Singapore set the pace with 265. After adding three moderate games of 202, 185 and 172, Anis and Adania bounced back with a sizzling 265 in the fifth game.

Despite not having big games thereafter, the Malaysian did hold on to their lead to end the block with 2041. Sara Duque and Mariana Santos of Colombia clinched second position with 2006. Maxine Bolek and Fiona Lindermann of Germany took third position with 1956.

The Singapore pair fizzled off to end in sixth position while Mexico and USA rounded out the top five with 1954 and 1931 respectively. The Boy's Doubles Squad 1 will take to the lanes at 5.30 pm local time for their 10-game qualifying rounds.

The Girl's Squad 2 will be contested tomorrow morning followed by the Boy's Doubles Squad 2 and then the Boy's third and final squad. The top 16 boys pairs and top 16 girls pairs will advance to the Matchplay Rounds on July 14.
