National bowlers dominate Open Division finals

1st June, Petaling Jaya: 2023 Penang Pesta Open Masters champion and National Podium Squad member, Izz Naquiddin Putera and Nur Syazwani Sahar dominated the Open Division finals of the Kuala Lumpur International Open Bowling Championships 2025 by capturing the Men's and Women's titles.

Nur Syawani had a sizzling start after rolling a perfect 300 in her opening game to lead Izz Naquiddin by 28 pins. Azriq Izam was third with 277 and Muhammad Hazim Bin Alihannafiah in fourth with 268. Other who also had good starts were Ahmad Aidil of Sunway Megalanes ith 248 and Indonesia's Ryan Lalisang with 247.

Izz Naquiddin added a stunning 290 to move into the lead ahead of Nur Syazwani by 18 pins. Azriq remained in third as while National Youth, Danial Abu Samah, who shot 268 to his opening game of 246, moved into third spot. 2023 National champion, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin followed in fourth.

The left-handed leader set a blistering pace after rolling three back-to-back 255, 252 and 257 to extend his lead to 61 pins. Azriq did not loose sight of his team-mate shooting 238, 258 and 258 to stay in second. Thailand's Yannaphon Larpapharat made his move to take up third spot.

The field of 36 finalists were no match for Izz Naquiddin as the 21-year-old cruised to victory with a total of 1993. Azriq Izam finished second with 1961, 42 pins behind. Ahmad Aidil fired two last strong games to clinch third position with 1882.

Yannaphon missed the podium with 1878 for fourth position. Wan M Zarif of Malaysia rounded out the top five with 1824. Tun Hakim shot a perfect 300 in the sixth game but only finished in ninth position. Izz Naquiddin pocketed the top prize of RM30,000 (approx. US$7,000) as champion.

Azriq Izam an Ahmad Aidil took home RM15,000 and RM8,000 respectively as first and second runners-up. Nur Syazwani was awarded RM7,000 as Women's Open champion, finished in tenth position. National Podium member, Faten Najihah and Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS, Sarawak earned RM4,000 and RM2,000 for second and third.

Puan Lidyawati Binti Hamzah, Deputy Director, Federal Territory Sports Council presented the prizes to the Men's Open winners while Ms Sheena Ayesha Dina Rizal, Assistant Sports Marketing Manager, MILO Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad gave away the prizes to the Women's division.
