German duo wins Doubles final squad

13th July, Incheon: Singles finalist, Paul Purps of Germany paired up with Max Lorenz to win the Boy's Doubles third qualifying squad of the 2024 IBF World Youth Championships and advance to the Matchplay Rounds as top seed.

Japan's second pair of Shusuke Nagao and Daiya Saito started off well with 246 to lead Nasser Alkandari and Hassam Qasem of Kuwait by one pin. Lorenz and Purps also got off the block with a good game of 235 for third. The Japanese added another strong second game of 236 to remain in the lead with the Germans trailing in second with 237.

Lorenz and Purps fired a sizzling 266 in the third to take over the lead with Japan and Kuwait fizzled off. Except for a low fourth game of 189, the leader was consistently rolling strong games from the fifth to the ninth and still ended the round in the lead with 2255.

2023 Singapore Open champion, Zach Ramin and Aldric Andero Bathan of the Philippines stormed home to finish second with 2194. Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Abualreesh and Bandar Al Yabah took up third in the squad with 2170.

Overnight Squad 1 leader and first Swedish pair of Alex Joki and Robin Noberg retained pole position with 2317 in the combined and overall standings. Squad 2 winner of Jacob Bockstie and Brandon Bohn claimed second position with 2283 while Lorenz and Purps took third spot.

The first German pair of Maris Materne and Zeno Janssen, who finished second to the Americans in the second squad clinched fourth spot with 2245 while Shin Jiho and Cho Yonghun of Korea completed the top five with 2245 and 2232 respectively.

The second pair of Ondrej Trojek and Lukas Jelinek of Czech Republic made the cut for the Matchplay rounds in 16th position with 2162. Malaysian pair of Ahmad Azriq Izamudin and Muhd Hariz Adlan Azman missed the cut by just five pins.

The top 16 qualifiers will be divided into two groups of eight athletes and will contest the 7-game Round-robin Matchplay rounds. The top two with the highest points from each match won, will advance to the semi-finals shootout tomorrow afternoon after the girls completed their Matchplay rounds in the morning.
