Singapore snatches Trios gold in final game

21st September, Bangkok: Singapore's first trio of Bernice Lim, Daphne Tan and New Hui Fen, snatched the gold medal in the final game of the Women's Trios second block at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships 2024 ahead of Malaysia settling for the silver and Korea taking home the bronze.

First block leader of Natasha Roslan, Gillian Lim and Sin Li Jane started where the second Malaysian trio yesterday with a superb 634 in the fourth game of the second block to extend their lead over the first Singapore trio from 40 to 96 pins.

Singapore had a moderate start with 578 with the first Filipina trio, Krizziah Lyn Macatula, Alexis Sy and Lara Posadas-Wong remaining in third with a respectable 613. With another 622 in the fifth game, Malaysia looked set to bag their fourth gold when they increase their lead to 114 pins over Singapore with 604.

Philippines still edged Korea's Jung Da Wun, Ka Yun Mi and Baek Seung Ja by five pins, still battling on. Singapore had to end the block strong in order to overhaul the favorite. As it turned out, Singapore finished off brilliantly with 714 in the sixth game to snatch the gold with 3822.

Malaysia struggled big time and managed only 567 to settle for the silver medal wit 3765, 38 pins behind in second. Korea also ended in style with 683 to clinch the bronze medal with 3765 and Philippines, like Malaysia, only shot 567 to miss the podium with 3663.

Japan's second trio of Mirai Ishimoto, Shion Izumune and Yuri Sato and the second Singapore trio of Cherie Tan, Colleen Pee and Shayna Ng completed the top five with 3633 and 3608 respectively.

After three events contested, Doubles gold medalist, Sin Li Jane of Malaysia took over the lead in the Women's All Events standings with 3898 (from 18 games). Yuri Sato of Japan is second with 3986, just two pins adrift and Singles and Doubles gold medalist, Daphne Tan occupied third with 3877.

The Men will completed the second block of the Trios event, with Squad 2 taking to the lanes at 12:30pm local time and Squad 1 at 16:20pm. The combined scores will determine the top three winning trios. Medal ceremony for the Trios will be held together with the Team of 5 on Monday, September 23.
