Four different cities win Masters gold

31st October, Shah Alam: Perfect gamer, Jeremiah Camacho of Tamuning, Nuurul Alyssa Junaidi of Shah Alam B, Y.H. Ng of Petaling Jaya and May Hui of Kowloon won the Men, Women, Senior Men and Senior Women Masters gold medal at the concluding 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship at Alam Lanes.

The star of the finals was undoubtedly Camacho after he defeated third-seed, Stanley Lau of New Territories, 2-0 (234-223, 227-195) in the title match to win the Men's gold medal. The 21-year-old rolled the championship one and only perfect game when he beat top-seed, Muhd Nur Aiman of Petaling Jaya, with an impressive 2-0 (300-258, 191-175) victory in the semi-final.

Lau, who settled for the silver medal, had to win a one-ball roll-off tie-breaker after a one-all draw with a strike against a 9-pin count in the other semi-final with Won Jong Hyeok of Seong Nam. Aiman and Won earned a bronze medal each.

The champion breezed past eighth-seed, Muhd Al-Amin Hj Hamid of Bandar Seri Begawan, 2-0 in the Round of 16. But Camacho had to work harder in the Top 8 quarter-finals after a one-all draw against Singles and Doubles gold medalist, Oh Gi Tae. Camacho struck to beat Oh 10-8 to advance to the semis.

Seventh-seed, Nurul Alyssa Junaidi upset the fancied top-seed and defending champion, Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani in the all-Shah Alam Women's title match by winning a one-ball tie-breaker, 10-9 after both leveled one each (178-170, 200-202) to win the only gold medal for Shah Alam B team.

Nurul Alyssa defeated sixth-seed, Hazel Tan of Singapore, 2-0 in the semi-final while Zatil booked her place in the final after beating eighth-seed, Lavina Kho Jai Jie of Kuching, 10-7 in a one-ball tie-breaker in the other semi-final match.

Both the finalists sailed past their opponents with 2-0 victories in the Top 8 quarter-finals but were lucky when they won their Round of 16 matches by winning their one-ball tie-breakers. Zatil added a crucial silver medal to Shah Alam A's medal tally to win the Women's division city title. Tan and Kho took home a brzone medal each.

Ex-international and Team gold medalist, Y.H. Ng set aside top-seed and Singles gold medalist, Wan Rohadi B Wan Hassan of Kuala Lumpur, 2-0 (224-167, 219-207) in the final to win the second gold medal for Petaling Jaya leaving Wan Rohadi the silver.

Ng edged fifth-seed, Zaba Othman of Shah Alam A, 9-7 in the one-ball tie-breaker after winning one match each to advance to the final. Wan Rohadi also won a one-ball tie-breaker, 10-6 in the other one-all semi-final match against Mavi Chan of Kowloon.

Both the champion and Wan Rohadi had an easy 2-0 victories over their opponents in the both the Round of 16 and the Top 8 quarter-finals. Othman and Chan took home a bronze medal each. Kuala Lumpur emerged the city champion in the Senior Men division.

Meanwhile, May Hui delivered the first-ever gold medal for Kowloon after easily defeating Mustura Binti Mahmud of Kuala Lumpur, 2-0 (194-167, 182-156) in the title match of the Senior Women division. Hui had to beat her team-mate, Money Chin, 2-0 in the all-Kowloon semi-final match to reach the final.

Mastura also booked her spot in the finals with a 2-0 victory over Rozana Binti Abdul Rasid in the other all-Kuala Lumpur semi-final match. But her luck ran out in the final to settle for the silver medal. Chin and Rozana were awarded a bronze medal each.

Both the champion and Mastura had easy 2-0 victories over their opponents in the Top 8 quarter-finals. Hui started the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win while Mastura had to win the one-ball tie-breaker, 9-6 in her one-all draw.

Petaling Jaya won the Men's division city title with a medal haul of 2-1-2 for a total of 17 points. Kuala Lumpur took the Senior Men city title despite having identical 16 points total but they will be awarded the title with 2-2-0 against Shah Alam A's 1-0-5 medal haul and a fourth place.

Shah Alam took the Women division city title with a medal haul of 2-1-2 and 17 points total. Kuala Lumpur earned the Senior Women division city title with a haul of 2-3-1 and 22 points total. Kuala Lumpur also emerged as Overall City champion with a haul of 5-6-5 and two 4th place finishers for a whopping 55 points total.

A victory banquet, hosted by Majlis Perbandaran Shah Alam (MBSA), will be held at the Grand Ballroom, Concorde Hotel later tonight during which, the host of the next Asian Intercity Bowling Championship will be officially announced.
