Singapore leads Women's Team first block

22nd September, Bangkok: With two gold medals in the bag, Singapore is vying for their third after a stellar show to lead the first block of the Women's Team of Five event of the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships 2024 ahead of Korea in second and Malaysia in third.

Cherie Tan, Bernice Lim, Daphne Tan, New Hui Fen and Shayna Ng set a cracking pace with 1001 in their opening game to lead arch rival, Natasha Roslan, Gillian Lim, Nur Syazwani Sahar, Nora Lyana Nastasia and in Li Jane of Malaysia by 24 pins.

Philippines and Macau, China did better than the favorite, Korea for third and fourth with 973 and 958 respectively. Singapore added another excellent 1009 in their second game but was unable to pull away as Baek Sueng Ja, Kim So Yeon, Kim Min Hee, Ka Yun Mi and Jung Da Wau picked up their pace with a stunning 1048 to move into second, just 5 pins adrift.

Philippines took up third with a superb 1000 ahead of Japan in fourth while Malaysia slipped down to fifth after a poor 955. Singapore wrapped up their first block with 1014 to lead the field with 3024. Kore remained in second with 988 for a 2993 total.

Malaysia bounced back with a good 1040 to finish in third with 2972. Japan and China completed the top five with 2880 and 2874 respectively. Macau and Philippines fizzled off to take up sixth and seventh positions. The women will return to complete their second block tomorrow afternoon after the men finished their second block.
