Australian quartet snatches pole

15th July, Incheon: Australia snatched pole position in the Boy's Team qualifying round of the 20204 IBF World Youth Championships from pace-setter, Korea in the final game to lead 15 teams into the Matchplay Rounds with Poland clinching third spot.

Hong Kong, China started off the Team qualifying rounds with a scorching 254 in their open game to lead Malaysia by 7 pins followed by Australia, Macau and Canada. Korea roll the championship's third 300 in the second game to take over the lead.

The Australian quartet fired a sizzling 274 to move into second spot. Malaysia slipped one spot down to third as Finland started to make their bid. The Aussies added back-to-back 226 but was content to stay in second behind the Koreans.

Korea reeled in 203, 278, 234, 242, 200 and 223 right up to the eighth game and still maintaining their lead. Australia continued to trail the leader by 37 pins. But the Koreans stumbled towards the end with 163 and 167 for a 10-game total o 2236.


Boy's Team Squad 2 and overall leader, Australia

Australia ended strong with 225 in their last game to snatch top spot with 2257. Poland came from nowhere to finish third with 2229. Finland and Malaysia rounded out the top five with 2201 and 2164 respectively. Australia, Korea and Poland finished 1-2-3 in the combined overall standings.

Squad 1 leader, Germany dropped down to fourth with 221. Finland took fifth position with 2201. The top 16 teams made the cut for tomorrow's Matchplay Rounds for seven head-to-head round-robin matches. The cut in 16th position went to Philippines with 2110.
